Description
Sitting at the center of ARC Audio’s RS midrange lineup, the RS4.0 offers a perfect balance of output, detail, and low-frequency extension in a form factor that fits “nearly” anywhere. Whether integrated into a custom front stage or an OEM upgrade system, the RS4.0 brings added energy and warmth to your music—without sacrificing imaging or control.
Slightly deeper than the RS3.0 but still a nicely engineered compact design, the RS4.0 gives installers a valuable tuning advantage: its lower resonant frequency (Fs) and increased Xmax allows crossover points to be set deeper in the midband. This helps remove crossover interaction from critical staging zones, resulting in smoother response and improved realism throughout the listening space.
The RS4.0 is a natural choice for an extremely wide range of applications including 2-way or 3-way fully active DSP-controlled systems or even rear fill applications, pairing seamlessly with the RS1.0 tweeter and RS6.0 midbass. Its mounting depth of just 1.94 inches makes it ideal for A-pillars, kick panels, custom dash locations, and even factory speaker upgrades where depth and diameter are limited.
Its lightweight hard-pressed composite papyrus cone offers excellent stiffness-to-mass ratio, damping unwanted resonance while preserving vocal clarity and instrument separation. A low-dampening rubber surround and cast aluminum basket provide mechanical control and long-term reliability.
The RS4.0’s motor system uses a high-flux neodymium slug magnet paired with an integrated shorting ring—dramatically reducing distortion and inductive rise in the critical midrange band. This difference in design (compared to the RS3.0’s copper cap) offers improved linearity, tonal balance, and dynamic response at lower crossover points.
A larger high-temp CCAW voice coil, wound using ARC Audio’s proprietary staging and bake process, enhances both thermal capacity and transient control. The non-conductive former helps eliminate unwanted magnetic field interaction and contributes to smooth, clean dynamic behavior under demanding listening conditions.
Each RS4.0 pair is hand-matched for compliance and acoustic symmetry, ensuring seamless left-right response and imaging consistency—especially important in competitive tuning environments.
When space is tight, but performance demands are high, the RS4.0 delivers: pure midrange tone, broad install versatility, and the kind of sonic impact that makes reference-level listening possible in any environment.
